Only six of the Suns’ 16 road games have finished over, and the Lakers’ last three games failed to reach the 215.5-point projection set for tomorrow night. The Suns have one of the lowest paces of play on offense in the NBA and the Lakers are just outside the bottom-third.
When the Rockets and Grizzlies last met on Thursday, Feb. 4 in Memphis, Houston won in a rout, finishing a 7-1 stretch for the road team. Veteran guard John Wall led the way with 22 points and 8 assists, while rookie forward Jae’Sean Tate scored a career-high 19 points.

Meanwhile, Ja Morant and the Grizzlies (14-15) are in possession of the No. 10 spot in the West, which would put them in position to earn the final spot of the play-in tournament for the 2021 playoffs. Thus, if Houston wants to keep hope alive of eventually getting back into the mix, Sunday’s game at Toyota Center would be a crucial one to win.
The bad news for the Rockets is it’s the front end of a back-to-back, with Cleveland set to visit Houston on Monday night. Because of that, veteran guard Victor Oladipo will sit Sunday for planned maintenance. Eric Gordon is likely to start in Oladipo’s place.

Sunday’s starters for the Grizzlies are expected to be Ja Morant, Desmond Bane, Dillon Brooks, Kyle Anderson and Jonas Valanciunas. Meanwhile, Stephen Silas will likely counter with John Wall, Eric Gordon, Jae’Sean Tate, Danuel House Jr. and PJ Tucker for the Rockets.
Advice and prediction
Memphis enters with three losses in its last four games, with all three coming by double digits. Thus, the Grizzlies will be highly motivated to make amends and hold their position for a potential play-in spot.

The Los Angeles Lakers, shorthanded as they were against the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday night without Marc Gasol and Kyle Kuzma, in addition to missing Anthony Davis, were given a gift in the third quarter of their loss against the Suns. But the Suns were not in the habit of letting one play define them on Tuesday as their relentless nature helped them survive losing their leading scorer, beating the Los Angeles Lakers, 114-104.
LeBron James had a game-high 38 points to go with six assists and five rebounds. While James was excellent, he didn’t get enough help on the offensive end as Dennis Schröder (6 for 17) and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope (0 for 5) both struggled to help LeBron.
The Lakers bench, while they got a nice contribution from Talen Horton-Tucker, was outplayed by the Phoenix second group. Dario Saric led the Suns in scoring with 21 points and he feasted in isolation situations against several players on the Lakers. Were it not for Saric, the Suns would not have cruised to victory the way they did.

The Lakers only have one more game between now and the All-Star break. Tomorrow they travel to Sacramento where they will face the Kings in their finale for the first half of the season. LeBron James didn’t look like someone who was ready to give in but we did see the issues the Lakers have without Marc Gasol, who was out tonight due to the league’s Health and Safety protocols.
With Gasol likely out tomorrow, the Lakers will be undermanned. Kyle Kuzma, who missed Tuesday with a heel contusion, is also a candidate to miss tomorrow night because of the potential two weeks rest he could get by sitting out tomorrow. The Lakers, like their opponents, will be looking towards a break. After falling to 3rd place in the West after tonight’s loss, LeBron likely isn’t in the mood to have them carry a losing feeling into an extended break.
